Summer 2006 Vacation

Since my going to law school in the Fall of 2006 is pretty much locked in, I am faced with the dilemma of trying to figure out what to do with my summer vacation. Obviously I should have the best time of my life since come August I'll be settling down with those lovely law books. So, dear friends I come to you. My first two ideas have been to do one of those all inclusive deals from Sandals, or to go on a Royal Caribbean cruise. Both have pros and cons, but there also are quite possibly tons of better ideas that would be crazy fun and not too expensive. Any ideas, suggestions, advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Don't those cruises cost thousands? For that kind of money you could hike through Europe, visiting Castles and things.

Also, I'm betting that the big appeal of both Sandals and Royal Caribbean is the tropical fun-in-the-sun, which you could get a less tourist-y version of just by visiting home. Although this is coming from someone who has never been to a Sandals resort, on a Caribbean cruise, or to Hawaii, so I'm probably wrong.

Or... you could take a summer roadtrip with friends across the states, hitting obscure & cool amusement parks.

Such as:

Sesame Place in Penn (weird but awesome park based on Sesame Street)

Rye Playland in NY (the only government owned park in the nation, much more adult-friendly than kid-friendly)

Action Park in NJ (a park with a sort of "low budget" feel built by a ski resort for summer use... they have stuff that's much bigger in scope than any "major" amusement park I've seen, I'm guessing because of less legal issues).

That might actually be really boring, but it's what occurred to me.

I agree that going on a cruise might not become "the best time of your life" it isn't too adventurous and might be boring and predictable. You don't want to spend your last days with a bunch of dull, fat americans! I think a road trip or traveling across Europe would be more interesting and more memorable, more difficult to do later. You could always do a cruise in your later years.

I recommend the moon palace in cancun, it is like sandals, but I think it is better.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I guess you all have much more ambitious ideas for the vacation and I should too. Cross country, I have done twice and really don't have enough time to really do that. I'm thinking a week or week and a half TOPS. I am now thinking Europe (Italy, Spain, France, Greece are all options) or possibly Mexico since I've never been and I'm going to check out this Moon Palace suggestion from a kind stranger. I'll keep everyone up to date.
