Slate article detailing why Thoroughbred Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro can still father a horse child, but it could never be called a Thoroughbred like dad. Apparently even though it would be possible for Barbaro to sire a foal after being euthanized
The only way a thoroughbred is allowed to reproduce is by "live cover"; i.e., horse-to-horse sexual intercourse.
Who knew you could have a horse's virility insured? Bizarre stuff going on in the world today. Who'd have thunk all these post mortem insemination issues would spring up at the same time.
