Marriage is Minority
NYT article about the trend of marriage. According to the last census married households in 2005 only account for 49.7% of all households. Ok, yes that means it's a huge minority, but a minority nonetheless. I found this particular paragraph interesting.
"It's partially fueled by women in the work force; they don't necessarily have to marry to be economically secure," said Andrew A. Beveridge, a demographer at Queens College of the City University of New York, who conducted the census analysis for The New York Times. "You used to get married to have sex. Now one of the major reasons to get married is to have children, and the attractiveness of having children has declined for many people because of the cost."What happened to people getting married because they love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together? It is my understanding that this exists outside of looking for economic security and desire for children. Things that make me go hmmm.
